

Everything else is working without incident. Waterfox is just fine I'm still on the fence about LibreOffice, but I can either get used to it or spring for a more up-to-date MS Office version. I also installed Waterfox, a substitute for Firefox recommended in these forums, and LibreOffice, a free substitute for my old MS Office, and any update of software like Acrobat Reader.

I was able, successfully, to update to El Capitan (that computer couldn't handle Sierra, but my new one will have it). I, too, was unable to use Skype with my then-current OS. Just by way of encouragement from a non-expert. Be patient, the download takes a long time and the install may look like it has died at times. Duplicate it and then drag the copy it to another locations like Downloads, if you want to save the installer.ħ. After downloading the installer, it will be in /Applications folder. Generally speaking, you should always upgrade to the latest possible system that you meet the specs for, as long as you have no “must have” apps that do not meet the specs. So those who are having problems with upgrades are the exceptions. Mostly only folks who are having problems post here and the millions whose Macs are working fine never visit here.
